There are three types of internal mixers: elliptical rotor mixers, triangular rotor mixers, and cylindrical rotor mixers, depending on the geometric shape of the rotor cross-section inside the mixing chamber. The most widely used in the rubber industry is the elliptical rotor mixer. The basic structure of a mixer includes the mixing chamber, rotor, upper and lower top plugs, cooling system, lubrication system, sealing device, and transmission device. The mixing chamber is the main working part of the mixing machine, with two rotors rotating at different speeds for plastic or mixing. The working principle of the internal mixer is that during the rubber mixing process, raw rubber or other materials are added from the feeding hopper and first fall into the upper part of two relatively rotating rotors. Under the pressure and friction of the upper plug, they are brought into the gap between the two rotors and subjected to kneading. Then, the rubber material is divided into two parts by the protruding edge of the lower top bolt, which respectively pass through the gap between the rotor surface and the front wall of the mixing chamber as the rotor rotates. After being subjected to strong mechanical shear and tearing, they reach the upper part of the mixing chamber. Under the influence of different speeds of the rotors, two strands of adhesive converge at different speeds on the upper parts of the two rotors and enter the gap between the two rotors in a repetitive cycle. During the entire operation of the internal mixer, the raw rubber is subjected to strong mechanical stress and thermal oxidative cracking during plastic molding, so the required plasticity can be obtained in a very short period of time.
